Warglaive Gothic FAQ

Warglaive FAQ: FAQ

What is Warglaive Gothic?

"Warglaive Gothic" is a Grimdark Sci-Fi universe Alec "Asmogan" Winchester Created. It is a universe of strife, death and malice. There are heroes, but all are laid low in time. There are no saints, only different shades of sinners. Within Warglaive six powerful factions vie for supremacy. Their goals range from raiding and reaving others for the sheer joy of it, to annihilating and harvesting others to sustain themselves. Greed is only sensible, Betrayal is common-place and being filleted alive is considered a mercy killing.

As for what Warglaive is intended to be as a product. It is intended to become multiple series of novels and a tabletop wargame (Potentially a tabletop RPG ala Dungeons and Dragons).

How many Factions are there and what are they?

There are six factions planned for the initial novelizations and official first edition of the game. Three of the factions are human in origin (The Sovereignty, The Warborn and The Terran Republic) and the other three are alien factions with unique, interesting and horrifying identities. (The Wrathan, The Vauk and The Gretch)

What year does the setting take place?

The exact date in relation to our own timeline is not known, the setting takes place in an entirely different galaxy to that of the Milky Way and humanity came here roughly three thousand years prior to the most recent events of the lore. The human factions judge the year in relation to that arrival, so the year is 3,000 AM (After Migration).

Is there a Kick-off point in the lore? An event that establishes the current paradigm?

There is an event which has most significantly defined the state of the galaxy in Warglaive. This event is referred to as The Reunification of Mankind. It is the point in time when the three long separated schisms of humanity, which entered this accursed galaxy together, re-encounter one another. Though they each find the others less than amicable and an eternal three sided war comes shortly after. Later to become six with the inclusion of the alien races.

Is there "Space Magic?"

Broadly, yes. Though cases of conjuring dimensional portals and manifesting lightning from one's hands is considered mythological. Such abilities can manifest in the absolute most powerful, unique and bizarre beings. More commonly however are Psychics, which are referred to as Augers (derived from the term augmented). There are six tiers of them and tiers one through five range from heightened intuition to being able to read multiple people's minds simultaneously, control them and telekinetically move objects the size of a tank. Tier six Augers on the other hand are capable of boiling the blood in your veins, burst every single drop out of your body without even looking directly at you and make entire armies submit to their will. Suffice it to say, there are very few tier six Augers in the lore.

When is the game coming out? What comes first, books or the game?

Currently the game is in it's infancy, there is much that still needs some fine tuning and as the number of people currently working on Warglaive amounts to a single individual (two if you include the freelance artist Pyrrhus of Epirus who has produced all of the wonderous concept art) progress is extremely gradual. To acclimate people to the setting best and hopefully build up both interest and finances, the first priority is novels. Though all aspects of Warglaive are being worked on regularly, the novels just get the lion's share of the attention and development.

How can we support this project?

First off to those interested in helping. Thank you very very much, it means the world to have people so interested in the work of passion that is Warglaive Gothic!

A Kickstarter is being considered and will likely happen at some point (this FAQ will be updated at such a time). Until then, the Asmogan Patreon is the best way to support the project and donating during livestreams on the YouTube channel also helps out immensely!

What makes Warglaive stand out amongst the crowd of Tabletop wargames and grimdark sci-fi universes?

Besides the lore and aesthetic, the thing that makes Warglaive stand tall is the player friendly development mindset and community aspects. As the creator, I want to make Warglaive cheaper, easier and more welcoming to get into than any other game of it's type. I intend to make the game rules free PDFs when the first addition launches and I also don't intend to sell a set of five cannon fodder units for a premium just to squeeze a few extra pennies out of my players. I am a hobbyist like all of you and I know that the biggest barrier of entry to hobbies like Warglaive is typically the price tag.

I also will do my absolute best to listen to the community and actually have an open dialogue with you all. No disabled comment sections or turned off like to dislike ratios. This universe is for all of you to engage in and enjoy. I will not turn my back to the very people whom I intend this all for. If I did that, than what's the point?
